This is the version of honey that was released as a free addon for the 2021 Quake re-release. The difference between this and the official one is that the progs.dat has been scrubbed of the custom functions that we used for the re-release.
The maps have been recompiled and re-lit with colored lighting. Some behind the scenes stuff has been updated.
Since the official release could not contain any material for which we did not hold the rights to, all third party textures have been scrubbed out. This means that the old end sequence with the fun music is gone, but instead you get to go to the circus in the most unfunny and drawn out cutscene in videogame history.
This version contains some textures that were created by the amazingly talented people in the Machinegames QuakeClub.
The original version can still be downloaded from Quaddicted, see the 'More Information' link to the right.
  1. Extract the files in the archive to your quake/honey/ folder.
  2. Run Quake, pull down the console and enter game honey, and then map start to play.
This release requires a limit-removing engine. Quakespasm is tested and recommended.

This mod contains some small gameplay features.
  • If you're playing on easy skill, secrets emit a twinkling sound that helps you find them
  • Zombies can be gibbed while laying down if you hit them with the axe
  • One of the levels features locks that can only be opened with rockets or grenades.

A masterclass of atmosphere and layout, with an instantly recognisable aesthetic that continues to inspire new maps a decade on. czg has a great sense of humour on display as well. This is one pack that everyone should play.
When I played this one I thought "ah, so Quake can be not blocky". Yeah, here we go with complex models (well brushes) intricately curved & angled. Hectic rhythm - not usual neverending fight with gradually rising temperature, but more sporadic encounters of very different difficulty. Inventive, of course, don't even doubt. And mood - damn it's moody. And not without the great help of accompanying comments (on screen texts here & there) - at least they worked on me perfectly and it was easier to feel like you're someone else in some other times in some other place. All in all it's an extremely memorable small not just episode but a story. Kudos!
*And a bit of humor. It's all there. Sorta Monty Python humor "that parrot is not dead, he's just restin"
An even more elaborately fun ending to one of the best mini-episodes of all time.
Still one of the more memorable classic Quake community maps from 10 years ago. Moody atmosphere and good map layouts keep your focus sharp through these levels. Outro / ending is something special and very unique compared to your typical Quake map endings.
