EDIT: Version 1.0.24 for Meta Quest/2/3 is now available! See the posts at the bottom for details.
--------------------------------

Slip & Frag
, the sourceport of Quake for Oculus devices, MacOS and more, has been updated to v. 1.0.20!

Get the latest version here:
https://bitbucket.org/Izhido/slip-frag/wiki/Home

This release sees the long-awaited introduction of external RGBA textures to improve the quality of world surfaces in game, specifically geared towards the Oculus Quest version. Meaning, texture packages such as the widely known Quake Retexturing Project will now work with it - provided that you open the package and copy the textures folder into ID1 in your game data folder.

A few screenshots created with the new functionality, from the Arcane Dimensions mod:

There is also one fix regarding lightmap loading, and some minor performance improvements regarding texture loading and mipmap generation.

Feedback of any kind is always welcome! Eagerly awaiting for your comments.

I'm happy to report that the final Win64 version of the app is now available for everyone to try! With this, I removed the old, legacy Universal Windows Platform (UWP) version that, despite fully working, it was a real pain to install and setup.

The Win64 version uses just the bare minimum Win32 API calls to make the game work; because of this, some beta testers reported that this version can also run under Linux x64 systems using Wine, easily.

This specific version can be found at https://bitbucket.org/Izhido/slip-frag/downloads/SlipNFrag-Win64_1.0.21.zip .

As usual, feedback is welcome! Happy playing!

Btw, if you want to make a Downloads page for this, I can link this thread as the discussion. I'll also throw it up on the main page slider to get some more people to try this out!
You don't even have to host it here, you can point the link towards your bitbucket, plus your threads will automatically get pushed to the top of the Downloads page after a major update.

This is really neat though, may I ask for some gameplay videos? It'd be cool to see this running some of the new Brutalism Jam stuff.

It's been a while since I posted anything here. A small peek of things to come:

I do realize it's going to be a hard sell, and it most likely won't get ever released properly. But I'd feel bad if I didn't come out and implement it - after all, someone's gotta do it. At least I can properly say I was among the first to do it  .

I'll keep you guys updated on further development for a proper immersive version using Metal - hope it's not too hard.

Version 1.0.23 is now available, for MacOS and Win64.

Game controllers, such as the Xbox 360 & One controllers, can now (finally!) be used to play the game in the MacOS and Win64 versions. See the current controller bindings at https://bitbucket.org/Izhido/slip-frag/wiki/Home#markdown-header-game-controller-bindings .

Also, these versions now run the core engine in its own thread, separate from the rendering code - this way, the application will no longer look frozen when loading game assets or when changing levels. As a matter of fact, the classic disk loading indicator is now displayed on screen when loading stuff, as is the [Loading] message between levels.

Downloads are available at https://bitbucket.org/Izhido/slip-frag/wiki/Home#markdown-header-downloads . As usual, feedback is welcome!

(In particular, I'm interested in seeing if, after these changes, the Win64 version can still be played on Linux...)

Version 1.0.24, for Meta Quest, Quest 2 and now Quest 3 is available!

Fixed an issue introduced since the last build, that made lit water (and other lit turbulent surfaces) disappear from screen. Also, some minor other corrections and optimizations were applied.
Oh, and also, Quest 3 runs the app at 120Mhz! (...on small maps, such as the original id levels. The speed with large maps will vary with the amount of content in them.)

Downloads are available at https://bitbucket.org/Izhido/slip-frag/wiki/Home#markdown-header-downloads . As usual, feedback is welcome!

This just in:
After a few, agonizing hours of wait, Slip & Frag was finally accepted into SideQuest!

Go check it out at https://sidequestvr.com/app/28180 .

Hopefully, with this, I will get some more eyes focused on it and get the feedback I've been dying to have about my effort on the app  .
