This is the version of terra that was released as a free addon for the 2021 Quake re-release. The difference between this and the official one is that the progs.dat has been scrubbed of the custom functions that we used for the re-release.
The maps have been recompiled and re-lit with colored lighting. All maps have received tweaks and upgrades to their geometry, some more than others. Some behind the scenes stuff has been updated. The order of the maps have been re-arranged, and some new ones have been added, including a start map.
Since the official release could not contain any material for which we did not hold the rights to, all third party textures have been scrubbed out.
This version contains some textures that were created by the amazingly talented people in the Machinegames QuakeClub.
The original version can still be downloaded from Quaddicted, see the 'More Information' link to the right.
  1. Extract the files in the archive to your quake/terra/ folder.
  2. Run Quake, pull down the console and enter game terra, and then map start to play.
This release requires a limit-removing engine. Quakespasm is tested and recommended.

The original set of levels were just a string of single maps that linked together in a vague sort of way. This re-release tries to tie them together a bit better, as well as making them look more like something I wouldn't be ashamed to release in 2022. Since I had some time to work on this, I slotted in "ou" which I had made a year earlier as an exercise to learn TrenchBroom, and I also started working on a brand new map for this release only.

List of changes:
  • start - Lipgloss Intro - A start map has been added with skill selection.
  • terra1 - Schumann Resonance (License rmx) - terra1 is for the most part the same as the original, but there are some minor visual tweaks here and there.
  • terra2 - Dead On Arrival (License edit) - terra2 is mostly as the original, but the final big, open area has been redesigned a bit and in general works a bit better now. There's also a new secret.
  • terra3 - Witch House Mixtape (GammaTweakr HEXedit rmx) - Where the old terra3 used to be, I've inserted the level previously released as "ou". This version most importantly has better lighting, and there are also some other minor tweaks to the geometry around the ancient tower.
  • terra4 - Shotgun Experiment 1 (Deep Slam Bang Mix) - This used to be terra3, but is now terra4. It has been worked on quite a bit, as I felt it was the weakest of the original levels. The overall flow has been streamlined a bit more, and hopefully it feels a bit less chaotic and weird than the original. It also looks better now in my opinion.
  • terra5 - 3/4 Latent Quarter (Lizard rmx) - Used to be terra4, is now terra5. This one is for the most part the same, but I've added in a bunch of shortcuts in case you fall down, the lighting is a bit brighter, and the ending area has some tweaks. I wanted to add more secrets, but this was surprisingly hard to do, since everything is so compact here and finding space for even the tiniest closet proved to be very difficult.
  • terra6 - Torture Department (Non-Refundable rmx) - This used to be the last level of the set, but has been moved forward a step since difficulty-wise, the original terra5 was harder (and in the remaster way harder). This is mostly the same, there's an extra shortcut and a new secret, but the biggest difference is the lighting is more alive with the red lava glow, and there was some janky geometry that is nicer now.
  • terra7 - Shotgun experiment 2 (LiGlo Pig rmx) - The first half of this is pretty much the same, but the ending is entirely new. Instead of the weird hops around C'thon and then it just ends randomly, there's now something more like a battle? Kinda?? If you squint maybe??? At least the exit is clearly an exit now.
  • terra8 - Sentinel Rave - A wholly new map for this release. I always felt the original set of levels lacked a proper ending, so I decided to make a beast of a map to cap it off. Did it pay off? You tell me, bub.

😊 The demon is your friend!

I'll pile on, this is great. Played through the Ironwail mod download list.

Witch House Mixtape is one of my favorite maps and Sentinel Rave is a great ending level that isn't Cthon again or something obnoxious.

Sentinel Rave especially impresses. The atmosphere going into the first part, the wild architecture, the chains, all of it. The slaughter fight at the end is my favorite end of any campaign I've played and I wish it was packaged as it's own map.
Completely forgot to rate this. Loved every second of it. The final map was a bit of a shocker + broke the pace a tiny bit with how large / expansive it is compared to the quaint nature of the other maps, but it's a fitting sendoff to a legendary pack.
I liked the original a lot, but the touchup and the new maps here puts it over the top. Would be nice if all of us could get a late-life makeover as good as this one!
Been playing this episode twice in a row. I can't rationally explain why it's that good but it is.
Fantastic episode filled with tons of meat and potatoes Quake goodness. Worth playing for any type of player.
