Good evening all the good folks of Europe and whatever the time of day is elsewhere!

Third time's the charm, I can't mess it up again *fingers crossed

Please welcome my 10+ map opus! :D I felt like I'll never complete it, adding, doubting, re-working, and re-furbishing some maps (few of them dating back to late 2021), distracting etc. so I just post it as is... Come what may, let it be!

While I tried to stay as much "vanilla" Quake as possible (visuals-wise: textures, skyboxes, monster models, NOT gameplay-wise), I encourage you to look around before jumping into the fray. Players would feel a certain scarcity of resources. AND lack of Easy / Normal skill settings for most maps.

Wider / more open spaces and the actual vanilla Quake FEEL (run, gun, strafe, grenade-jump etc.) could be missed by many, as well. As I try to guide players with text prompts that also drive the "story" behind each level, I hope it won't turn this experience into a "read instead of shoot" fest :D and I hope you'll guess all of the quotes - from pop culture, mostly, some obvious as heck, some - not so much, some pretty obscure. "Old, not obsolete" (c)

I'm re-using my Quad Run map and Vanilla Jam (sm223 and sm228, respectively), the latter accessible only through console or level selection menu, not the hub. AND Doors That Hurt map is available only with noclip (it's incomplete art-wise, but playable and complete-able).

My thanks go to Paril, erysdren, Mopey Bloke, jntr, bmfbr, Inectha, and other good folks from Quake Mapping discord. Dark priests were taken from the awesome Dark Triad mini-pack (highly recommended), the credit goes to imi74!
Ofc, authors of the awesome TrenchBroom!
Eric Wasylishen for the compile tools.
QuakeSpasm / Ironwail (which I switched to from KEX)
id Software (duh),
and ofc dumptruck_ds for showing it's easy AND for making the awesome pd_300 mod that made mapping a great experience for me!

Nice set of maps.
Good gameplay, but something wasn't enough to be excellent.
Thank you.

thanks! My guess - it was the gameplay that wasn't really *enough*. I was too much focused on making most levels "look good with only or mostly vanilla textures used", got too gimmicky, too reliant on secret and forgot about the most essential Quake drug - engaging gameplay that keeps you on your toes. If this awesome game had no Quad Damage at all, these levels of mine would have been outright boring :D

I have some 3-4 maps in progress and some improvements on these ones, I guess an update is in order...
Unapologetically 90s. I really liked the brushwork and lighting, particularly in Mad World. At times jokey (like in the "rip and tear" bit and heavy teleportal map with the cat etc., main complaint here would be ammo/hp), at times nonsensical (the "wolfie" map), at times very creative and quite fun (chess, knight time, threat lightly (!), grim risker, q27, squid) and at times just unusual and/or cruel (trials & violenza).

The TMNT map deserves an award.

Thanks! TMNT was my pride and joy (the pre-final boss room). With the tons of text I tend to unload unto players, I'm still in doubt whether the TMNT movie quote should be accompanied by "still shots" from that movie recreated or that would be too much *doubting emoji
An amusing set of maps with some wonderful ideas. Really enjoyed playing these. Always good to see a different interpretation of what Quake can be :)
