Good evening all the good folks of Europe and whatever the time of day is elsewhere!
Third time's the charm, I can't mess it up again *fingers crossed
Please welcome my 10+ map opus! I felt like I'll never complete it, adding, doubting, re-working, and re-furbishing some maps (few of them dating back to late 2021), distracting etc. so I just post it as is... Come what may, let it be!
While I tried to stay as much "vanilla" Quake as possible (visuals-wise: textures, skyboxes, monster models, NOT gameplay-wise), I encourage you to look around before jumping into the fray. Players would feel a certain scarcity of resources. AND lack of Easy / Normal skill settings for most maps.
Wider / more open spaces and the actual vanilla Quake FEEL (run, gun, strafe, grenade-jump etc.) could be missed by many, as well. As I try to guide players with text prompts that also drive the "story" behind each level, I hope it won't turn this experience into a "read instead of shoot" fest and I hope you'll guess all of the quotes - from pop culture, mostly, some obvious as heck, some - not so much, some pretty obscure. "Old, not obsolete" (c)
I'm re-using my Quad Run map and Vanilla Jam (sm223 and sm228, respectively), the latter accessible only through console or level selection menu, not the hub. AND Doors That Hurt map is available only with noclip (it's incomplete art-wise, but playable and complete-able).
My thanks go to Paril, erysdren, Mopey Bloke, jntr, bmfbr, Inectha, and other good folks from Quake Mapping discord. Dark priests were taken from the awesome Dark Triad mini-pack (highly recommended), the credit goes to imi74!
Ofc, authors of the awesome TrenchBroom!
Eric Wasylishen for the compile tools.
QuakeSpasm / Ironwail (which I switched to from KEX)
id Software (duh),
and ofc dumptruck_ds for showing it's easy AND for making the awesome pd_300 mod that made mapping a great experience for me!
