What's the best thing for mapping? Quake or Quake 2?

I decided to try my hand at mapping for Quake, but I have a question - which is better? Quake or Quake 2? I think Q2 should be better, because it based on a newer engine in comparison to the classic Quake.

I mean this unironically and without just trying to give an obtuse non-answer: the best game for you to map for would be the game you enjoy more. It'll keep you motivated and excited to finish and work hard at it.
