vkQuake new release !

Any way I can get that map browser?

If you have an account on GitHub, you have access to the automated CI builds. But I suppose you don't, else you would know that already.

So here it is, matching that change : https://github.com/Novum/vkQuake/pull/957, not even yet on master but with all the latest changes combined.

Besides the level browser borrowed from Ironwail, Novum just added a particular optimization for the case where huge bmodels would crawl the engine when looking at their direction, (Immortal Lock, Marroned, Moljnir... ) contrary to Ironwail which remained quite stable.

Now with that important problem solved, combined with quite a few other optimizations under the hood also made by Novum, I beleive vkQuake performance is now matching Ironwail's in all cases. (at last)

This is preview, given with no garantee at all.

This is a shockingly big update, thanks a lot for this treat. I tried the latest release as well as pull 957 and it is very nice; the performance improvements are noticeable on some maps, as long as I don't use the new RT dynamic lights or OIT options. :ROFLMAO: At least you can see the difference with the ray traced dynamic lights though; It is a massive improvement in the Dimension of the Machine. But yeah, dropping from 360 locked to less than 80 on my puny RX 6600 is too much for now even with the dramatic lighting improvement. Hopefully I can get a card after the AI bubble crashes that can run it better (and OIT, which is also heavy even on low but not as drastic).

Yep, I'm on a Mac and would like to see this raytracing in VKQuake which means going back to PC. That's not in my plans considering I don't need a big rig anymore, and the cost of them has gone insane. However, I discovered I can run the remaster in Steam on Crossover on the Mac and the dynamic lights work fine there. I can live with that given the incredibly expensive alternative!

hmm.
Starting with 1.35.0, the engine renames the client to "unnamed" whenever a map is loaded. This does not happen in 1.34.1.

Not a big deal, but still.

I have the latest nightly build because I wanted the level select, but it's missing the ability to select a difficulty from the level menu, can that be added?

The new level selection feature is simply fantastic. VKQuake has always been my first choice, as I work extensively with AD. After the changes to some commands (a feature I specifically requested) and the addition of level selection, I now use it exclusively.

Thanks to the programmers for the excellent implementation.
six Stars !!!

I have vkQuake, Ironwail and FTEQW in my Quake folder and vkQuake became the default after latest updates.

I wonder if it's possible to have a version for raytraced lighting, like the fork we had a couple years ago.

But again, that raytraced version did not look better than default lights imo.

If you play a map pack with a difficulty select, you'll still have to find it to play it on NM skill. If you select a different skill on hub, you'll keep it for the pack/episode regardless of autoexec.
