Using Trenchbroom will sometimes cause my PC to crawl and lag. I have to restart my PC just to get it back to normal

I genuinely don't know what is causing it. Sometimes I will just be busy putting textures or moving brushes and then suddenly my PC just starts lagging heavily and everything will take about a second to do. And it's not just the program itself, my entire PC crawls, with the exception of my mouse.

I tried searching for what could be causing this, but nothing has come up so far. I really want to continue using Trenchbroom to map for my Quake map but if this keeps happening I may have to scrap the project and Trenchbroom too.

This has happened several times already.

I don't think it is a problem with my PC itself, since my PC's specs are fairly high. I can run a lot of high end games without stutter.
Happened on the latest build of Trenchbroom

Is there any chance you're loading a giant wodge of textures (e.g. the complete Makkon sets) and exhausting your PC's memory?

Shot in the dark there, but if so, you should try to only load the smaller set of textures-you're-likely-to-use.

Yes. I was loading Makkon's tech textures all at once. I asked in other places, and they suggested using only what I wanted to use.

I used Texmex to bring the file size down to 1/4 of its original size by deleting what I know I won't use, but it still happens.

I don't know if I have to bring the file size down even more, of it really is just some other issue.
