Quake from Memory (full release) - id1 cursed edition

Quake From Memory (or, id1 cursed edition)
------------------------------------------
If somehow id1 was wiped off of all computers in the world, do we collectively remember the maps well enough to recreate them?

We tried to answer that question.

Jam started December 28th, 2024 and concluded with a "shareware" release February 9th, 2025. Work on the remainder of the game continued through August of 2025.

The mod comes in 2 flavors:

- qfm-v1.zip: This version replaces all id1 maps with...

I don't understand why, but on any game engine (Ironwail, QSS, vkQuake), all enforcers are shooting at no one knows where. You have changed the "progs.dat" file and increased the laser flight speed. But these poor guys are now shooting in different directions, like the sun's rays, but not at the player or at other enemies. Here are examples from the QSS engine (the result is the same everywhere):

I'm pretty sure this isn't true (enforcers definitely shoot directly at me when playing this map, and I don't think the progs has been altered at all...)

Hm, no on E4M1 I see exactly the behavior you describe - none of the Enforcers can aim straight...

Can you tell me what parameters the modified progs.dat file changes, besides the fact that when it is disabled, I can't load game saves?
It feels like I'm surrounded by an electromagnetic spherical field, and it distorts the direction of the laser.
And in my game this behavior is observed wherever "enforces" are present.

I saw the jam organizer say elsewhere that this was fixed (around 8 AM Pacific today) and you could get the fix by re-downloading. The update history hasn't changed here so I'm not 100% sure what is up... I think they just replaced the file for the existing download link.

I hope the map-only version will come out, I would really like to play it with mods like Play_Q for instance :)

This ought to be possible, but it requires renaming files. I'd suggest creating a fresh mod directory, and copying pak0.pak, pak1.pak, progs.dat and csprogs.dat from copper into the new directory. Then copy pak0.pak and pak1.pak from qfm as pak2.pak and pak3.pak into the new directory.

---

edit: Oh damn no, progs.dat is in qfm's pak0.pak

---

EDIT: Actually, it's easier than that! Run Quake with `-game qfm -game copper`. It needs to be in this order so that the progs are loaded from copper instead of qfm

Alternatively, If I remove the `progs.dat` from `pak0.pak`, I virtually get the "maps-only" version : Works perfectly using Play_Q for instance, loading in that order '-game play_q -game qfm' so thay I get all the graphical enhancements of Play_Q using the QFM maps, as intended...

IMHO, if according to the qfm's readme the addition of the `progs.dat` is just to have some vanilla fixes, I suggest removing it entirely so that is solves the problem of those 2 flavors that needlessly complicate usage with other mods...

I mean, the *point*, surely, is to present the mod as "like Quake itself was distributed" - in 2 pak files called pak0 and pak1 that contain the shareware and non-shareware content? It's part of the whole "thing".

The progs are bugfixed vanilla, with one addition to make the Shareware release work properly. You can remove the progs, that's fine, everything should work.

I won't be removing it from the main download.
