Quake Brutalist Jam III

Is there a way to switch off the footstep sounds a la Alkaline? I play with a controller and walking slowly with the analogue stick drives me crazy with Rover tippy-tapping everywhere. :)

It seems there is no qc variable to disable footsteps.

Locate the files footstep*.wav and probably waterstep*.wav in sound/player and replace with short silent wav files.
Those has to be valid wav files to prevent error messages.

a quick heads-up for linux / freebsd users: qbj3_1.3 has introduced a new small issue with one map qbj3_cyn.map and qbj3_cyn.lit
Those files must be renamed to qbj3_cYn.bsp and qbj3_cYn.lit. The start map references the map as qbj3_cYn

If you need a short silent wav file here's one attached, you could duplicate it, rename the duplicates as necessary, and use it like j4r describes.
copper has null.wav, which is in sound\misc\ in the pack.

Is it known what music track qbj3_eber (Retribution from Below) is trying to play when it tries loading cdrip track1?
Code:
Retribution from below
Using protocol 999
Couldn't find a cdrip for track 1

this map starts with no music, and it is triggered to start playing later.

I love QBJ/QBJ2 and the extra episodes that came from QBJ2 (Nullspace and BV). QBJ3 is very well realised and executed but... I play Quake for Quake, thus the original gameplay, monsters, weapons and atmosphere. I hated Quake2 and I feel QBJ3 veers that way. I also find the difficulty (on normal) very tough, but that's on me I guess being in my mid-50s 😁 I'll play through it all for the challenge though I won't return to it as much as I return to the first two brutals, but I'm not going to fault the team for their hard work and what they have tried to create here 👏

Hi all! I'm having a great time with Quake Brutalist Jam III — fantastic project. Just curious if there's been any talk about multiplayer or co-op support?

Some maps support either or both. It was however not a focus or requirement, so you'll just have to read through the maps' readmes to see if support is listed.

Just to rant more about Scampie's map. I keep playing it again and again, and can't get bored of it. The atmosphere is so cool, with its dystopian cyberpunk feel that I still play it in nightmare mode, trying to finish it in so many ways.

I want more of this particular aesthetics and visuals (with the doors, yellow stripped columns, stairs and so on), it just feels right to my eyes. This map is one of the best I've played in Quake since a very long time!

Here are some cool dystopian cyberpunk music tracks that I play while playing his map, I believe they add a lot to the experience:

The guy that made these tracks also made dozens and dozens of similar tracks, but I believe that most of them are pure scraps. He says that there were all generated without AI (but the gals pictures are from AI, obviously). The tracks that I gave above are -- IMHO -- the best one. Try'em with Quake Brutalist, and especially with Scampie's map!

Thanks a lot for all the fun, Scampie! Cheers ! (y)
