Nameless Revenge - A large single-player Quake map with a looping structure. My first Quake map!

Nameless Revenge is a large single-player Quake map with a looping structure that has players traveling far along, high above, and returning to already visited locations from new vantages. This was the first long-term Quake mapping project I ever completed, with development spanning about a year as I began a full-time job in a games industry after completing my masters program.

I began this project mostly to learn Trenchbroom and worked without constraints in either my design or...

The instructions are currently a bit unclear.

From what I've been able to figure out, this is the file and folder structure that's needed for everything to work as intended (using 'rerelease' as the example):

<Quake root>
> rerelease
-> nr-mod
-> id1
--> maps
---> namelessRevenge_1.1.bsp
---> namelessRevenge_1.1.lit
---> namelessRevenge_1.1.map
---> namelessRevenge_1.1.txt

With that in place after extraction, the short of the instructions seems to apply, i.e.:

Execute game nr-mod in the console (normally shows up when pressing § on the keyboard by default), or use the MODS menu if that's part of the source port in question, then in the console execute map namelessrevenge_1.1 (tip: type map and then part of the map name, then press TAB to automatically complete the rest of the file/map name).

Can anyone else confirm that my assumptions are correct? At least the map seems to start after doing this.

Ah! My mistake. Yes, the instructions as written are insufficient. I'll rerwrite them now. But to offer you an immediate correction, the files titled namelessRevenge should actually live within a maps folder inside of the nr-mod folder. Otherwise your file structure is correct.

I have actually uploaded a new zip file with a more intuitive file structure, which should make installing this as simple as just dumping one folder into your main directory. Apologies for any confusion but thanks as well for letting me know!!

vodselbt updated Nameless Revenge with a new update entry:

namelessRevenge_1.2 | Bug Fixes

Thanks to Mr. Cat, Joe B, and The_Pirate for pointing out some easily fixed issues with the previous version of namelessRevenge. The installation instructions remain the same for previous versions of the map.

Changes:
  • Made it unlikely that players will bump their heads against elevator shaft walls when riding them throughout the map (thanks Mr. Cat)
  • Made adjustments to logic surrounding the silver key, which should make it harder (nay impossible) for players to obtain the key...
