What Lies Behind

Incredibly moody map with great pacing and a couple of really enjoyable fights. Great architecture and detailing, too. I would have preferred fewer pitch-black areas/corners and a more challenging final fight (the Spawns are more annoying than deadly here, especially given their low numbers), but I still liked this a lot.
I should have played this map much sooner, because it really captures the Quake 64 atmosphere within a high-caliber modern map. Quake 64 distinguished itself from PC Quake with a more-brooding soundtrack and colored lighting. This produced an somber yet otherworldly experience. iYago captured this experience quite well; thus this map is a recommendation from me. My only nitpicks with this map are boiled down to player preference.

For a "normal" difficulty player, it was about right for me. I didn't have to abuse quick saves to get through it, despite some challenging encounters. Importantly it took me 20 minutes to get through, which is about right. Even though I want more maps like this, its best they dont drag past the 30-minute mark too much.

It has fantastic use of colored lighting to create the Quake 64 atmosphere. Some of the areas could be brighter in lighting, but it was also nice to have enemies lurking around in the darkness. The Quake 64 soundtrack was also icing on the cake. I hope to find more maps like this!

Here's my playthrough:
damn you look up "short but sweet" in the dictionary, you see this map. excellent design all throughout, though my only issue is that the final encounter could've been a bit harder; just a shamber and a few spawns, which is tricky but not particularly intense.

what WAS intense though, was the fight after grabbing the gold key in that lava filled room; having to juggle dodging, shooting and a bit of platforming was a nice mental game when i was going against those ogres and the two uh... shalraths

the fight before that with the death knights and fiends was great too, wonderfully chaotic. two of my favorite enemies in one ominous arena!

overall, i give it four stars cuz as stated before, the final fight could've been a bit harder, and the rocket launcher didn't get much use cuz it's given to you right before a shambler comes up, and we all know shamblers can shake off explosions like dandruff

looking forward to seeing more stuff from you, iyago!
Nice short map. Never could find all the secretes. In my mind that's a good thing. I don't think it's too dark. Then again I am a sucker for ambiance. That being said the music is quite good. I'm assuming its Immorpher. The heavy weight champion of ambient music for boomer shooters. I played it a long time ago and forgot about it until it popped up here. Loved the ending enough to make it my welcome video on my youtube channel.
Short and sweet. Solid combat. Fun brushwork and details. Good balance all throughout. One nitpick and one critique:

- Nitpick: the .zip file could include a `maps` folder with the .bsp and .lit, so it can be launched conveniently with -game wlb +map wlb. The player can do that themselves, no problem. So admittedly, it's just a nitpick.
- Critique: the map is way too dark. It's not that the lighting is low. It's that there are too many pitch black spots which, even by turning gamma up, are still just pitch black.

I had fun with this map, and the progression and combat are fun. I'd just like there to be less pitch black areas (also, some fog would be nice, just to add depth; added fog myself via console - enjoyed it even more).
Awesome. Should play.
I had a lot of fun playing this map. Very cool use of lighting, and the big moving platform that leads you to the fiend fight I thought was pretty clever. Level of darkness vs brightness I thought was on point. The big fight near the gold key was awesome. I really liked that there was plenty of space to move around but I also had to be cautious about falling in the lava. Overall, I had a great time playing it.
Short but with a unique geometry that makes it very fun to navigate. Recommended!
Very interesting map, gameplay is very unique and the detailing is fun too!
