Quake from Memory (full release)

What an absolute masterpiece. And very reassuring that even if something happens, nothing stands in the way of cheerful quaking. Some maps were as true to the original as others were absurd. Still others were just a little off. Loved it. Thank you so much.

Awesome work.. maps are sometimes wildly accurate and sometimes super wrong (especially e3m4). But it was a blast to play through even if you're not too familiar with the source material. The maps never felt unfair either (apart from one insane spawn pool). Was an absolute joy to play and to contribute! Took me about 4h to beat.

Simple concept, great results. It's id1, so it's hard to go too wrong, even if memory warps many things.

I opted to play along with the jam's concept and not revisit id1 before playing this, which led to more than a few moments where I started second-guessing things and tried to figure out whether I was the one misremembering... and any map pack that can cause me to doubt myself is probably a good one!

Fun to make and fun to play. It's interesting to see what sticks in other players' minds (and what doesn't!) about a 30yo game. Slipgate Complex seems like it could have been made by somebody who just saw a series of screenshots without any knowledge of how the areas connect! But even the very accurate maps have subtle differences that cause the eye to twitch, such as the secret in Gloom Keep being opened by an actual button instead of the wall sconce. I think my favourite quirk of the entire pack is low gravity fiends in Ziggurat Vertigo -- before this pack I'd never really thought about the original not having them, and why!

Congrats to all my fellow mappers for a hard won release, and special thanks to iLike80sRock for organising it.

This was fun to play! You remember the most of the original Levels, but then... something different appear around the next Corner, but still some secrets are where you assumed them. Well done. Felt "almost" like the Original Episodes.

One of the best map jams in Quake's community history. Entire Q1 episodes were recreated by player from their memory.

Some old parts of the maps were improved, not to insult original creators, or made more gameplay wise with new enemy placing.

As with the shareware version, the best maps here are the ones which are not quite what you remember, in ways that throw you off (Rabbit's e1m1 is a great example of this - all the right notes are there, but not necessarily in the right order!). I'm struck by how, generally, scale is bigger here where people are working from memory - there's quite a few rooms which are just much bigger or taller than the original - our memory makes things more epic...

(Ironically, this actually makes one or two parts of episode 4 easier than the original, since you have more space to move around).

I did miss one or two secrets that I actually remember in the original - although I didn't miss the slow crusher in E4M5 in the wooden raised room, I am glad 80s forgot it :D

I recommend giving the original maps a quick run through before playing this - it's a short game if you've played it before, and it really does bring home the differences here!

I mean it is just the vanilla Quake campaign basically so it is good.

All jokes aside there are some really cool mutations in few maps such as e2m3 and e3m3. Playing with expectations and knowing original maps really well will mess with you in a good way. Cursed thing.

Eughhh, I shouldn't have played this at 2 in the morning, why do I do this to myself...

Fun map set btw. I didn't know you could get not just consecutive maps but also a completely separate hub working in a gameplay mod that already has its own hub. Probably basic QC, but to me it's magic

Great maps all around (duh, it's id1). Pretty fun seeing how the more complex layouts get either uncannily spot on or butchered. lmao maybe it's MY memory, but the nails traps seem to spit out nails a lot quicker.

I will confess that I tend to download and forget for 6 months, but I played through this one the moment I realized that it was out and just had to finish it in one sitting. Good stuff.

I 5/5 star this project because i playtested every level, some with a lot of replays, the spirit of this project shows how dedicated we are and how good teamwork always lead to achieve amazing things! i loved every second of this jam, from creation to playtest.

Each level is unique, some are similar to the original levels, yes, others are very different in ways i can't explain in words, but all of them are cool, in which creativity of every mapper, even in the collab maps, shine with a lot of brightness.

Enjoy this map pack / mod... Thanks ID for making Quake, we will be bunnyhopping, rocket jumping and doing Quad rampages for Eternity!

Best vibes for everyone!

TL;DR : I played the whole pack a lot of times, and it's very unique, give it a play, i promise you'll enjoy it!
