Wanted to put out these two vanilla+ style maps I had laying around. They were built with the classic 8-bit color palletization in mind, so feel free to turn that on and have fun!

To play, drop the two .bsp files into your maps folder found in either your id1 folder or any mod of your choosing, and then type "map markiesp1a" in the console to start!

Remember to pick a difficulty if you don't want to play on Normal.

Played with copper. The final fight in B is very difficult, but overall a fun couple levels.

Played these a while back and figured I should review them. Typing this up has made me feel like playing them again!

I thought it started off a little nondescript but then it just ramps up and up. The cool thing is that the "ramp up" is mostly not about it getting crazier or more difficult, but just ... "neater". :-) More and more interesting. An interesting amount of interconnectivity without being a swiss-cheese mess of a maze. Paths that you see and wonder how to get to. A surprising monster placement that makes you think fast. A sudden vista. Something that looks like it might be a secret, and yep it is, and hey there's more stuff to do/find in here! Etc.

The whole thing looks great too, very much fitting the "vanilla+" descriptor.

Excellent couple of maps with a great vanilla+ feel.
Secrets were neat and creative. Combat is thoughtful and plays well with the level design. The levels are intricate without being too large and overwhelming. Just the right amount of exploration with engaging combat and excellent visuals.

Both maps were a pleasure to explore and to play. The first one is a wonderful reimagining of the old skool maps. Gameplay, enemy encounters and level structure all remained interesting and engaging from start to finish. The acid base aesthetic of the second reminded me in the best way of Terror Fuma, my favorite base map ever. These secrets were too well hidden for me. I need to play again to find them.

Absolutely fantastic. Modern yet perfectly classic, just the way I like it. The atmosphere and flow are spot on. The final fight, though, felt noticeably tougher than the rest of both maps– maybe even a bit over the top.
All in all, I had a great time. Thanks a lot!
