Dungeon's Saga (Chuma's first maps)

I'm an enthusiast of videogame preservation so well i decided to upload my first maps ever created, they are 3 separate maps : Dungeoncrawl, Dungeonescape and Dungeonspeed ( in that order).

i've uploaded a while ago a file with all these maps in the quake mapping discord and yeah i've got good feedback and well good reception.

What differ these from Urantia, is that these were made all in J.A.C.K editor, i was starting to toy around and i started to love Quake mapping, of course, a lot of these were just the beginning and Urantia really marked the beginning of a project i really wanted to share with the quake mapping community.

These have been uploaded for preservation and maybe if you wanna take a look and explore "beta maps" of an unknown or recent mapper in the scene (me, hello there) go ahead and check em out!

One thing, one of the maps has a small leak, i was encouraged to fix it but after talking with some friends from the Quake mapping scene, i decided it wasn't worth the effort (and i've lost the .map a long time ago, my previous hard drive died on me, i saved among that projects that needed to be save and important data, this is all i could save, and since i used Quakespasm for playing custom Quake maps... basically this is the best i could).

There was a non-completed idea called "Freyja" i did in a day i came back from college with Trenchbroom, thing is other than a mockup there wasn't much there to go.

This is my commentary playthrough on the maps.

Hope you enjoy or have a different time with them.

Note 1: it's intended to be played in : Dungeoncrawl, Dungeonescape and Dungeonspeed.

Note 2: I used Quakespasm, always have.

Note 3: I didn't put a notepad file talking more about the maps because i can't upload them to quaddicted (my isp is having troubles connecting to the site and i'm lazy to use a VPN at times,)

Note 4: These are "historical" uploads, so yeah i'm not looking forward to these maps as "my best work" just to provide my work and practice, These maps are playable and completed so i think they can be uploaded

I wanna thank most of the friends on 3DRealms (Wrath) who gave me feedback (Shambler, Chillo, the guy that did Quake 1.5 whom name i forgot)

Have a good one people!

It's not that the three maps are bad. They're just not something I would recommend to someone looking into Quake for the first time. If you need something to frag for 10 minutes while you're on the phone, then this is for you. I had fun. Thank you.

No problem, glad you had fun with my "practice" maps in J.A.C.K regardless of good or bad, is to bring joy to people, best wishes Gonzo!
Okay so whoever gave this a 1, You're an asshole. A 1 is QZONE, this isn't that. Yeah it's basic and has issues but a 1 is overkill.

Ironwail, Hard, shotgun start since the maps don't lead into each other.

So the obvious bad stuff.

  1. Texture and brush misalignments. I'm sure this is just a practice thing.
  2. Default skybox, same.
  3. Dungeonspeed did not function for me (as in I couldn't leave the first room)
  4. The zip should have the maps in a "maps" folder. Then you can just unzip and play.
  5. The layouts are obviously basic, but most of them could be massaged into "more" with some detail (the ending on both was pretty good).
Good stuff!

  1. Ammo/health pickups were good. No ammo is a pet peave of mine, not a problem here.
  2. Fun encounters. I like being able to get stuff infighting with Vores because fuck Vores. Let me do that and I'm happy.
  3. There are the bones of some good set pieces here. The brushwork's basic but most of the enemy groupings are solid, there are useful fun secrets. Jumping out of a portal with a quad to kill 3 vores was a LETSGOOO.gif for me.
  4. Some good secrets. Nothing too fancy but they were findable and useful.
Keep at it. This is FINE for an early submission. I'm curious how JACK is working out for you.

Hello Tech! hope you are doing well, i was doing graduation stuff so well i came back to take a look at Slipseer i'm glad people are taking a look at it.

Based on your feedback i decided to do a small update and put these with the "maps" folder... altho they can be easily added to the id1 or maps folder without any issue.

I do regret some encounters (altho they were mostly praised) and i do regret some secrets (they were not so obvious to find) but well we all start somewhere.

I'm currently using Trenchbroom and i feel it goes well with my workflow, J.A.C.K is an amazing editor but i prefer the simpleness of Trenchbroom.

A fun fact: The sky in Dungeoncrawl was mean't to be one found in quaddicted (there was a skybox section) but for some reason it never got saved with the map.

Another fun fact: Shambler can get stuck in the portal in Dungeoncrawl but at times he doesn't... it's a weird RNG that i'm not even sure how it goes lol.

Thank you for the review, best wishes and check my other map (Urantia) if you haven't!

Excelsior!
