The Dimension of Pure Evil​

This pack of maps is designed to be brutally difficult. It's a set of challenge maps, aimed at pushing what players might (or might not) be able to do to the limit.

Using a prototype texture style (and Kebby's prototype Quake models), mappers here have designed encounters which are meant to be tough as nails, expecting players to learn, grind, and push themselves to the limit.

These maps aren't entirely made to be purely annoying, however. A lot of care went in to express fun ideas.
We really hope all players will give the maps a shot and try to enjoy what's being offered.

I've wanted Kaizo Quake for a while and I'm very happy to have my wishes fulfilled, especially when it came to the more movement based Quezo Fresco. I enjoyed pretty much everything here, though finishing an ultra hard jumprope circular arena section at the end of Lab Rat Scuffle and being thrown right back into another one in Saturday Night's Alright for Z-Fighting made me cry a little. But I suppose you can play the maps in any order you want so that's partially on me.

Favorite Map is probably a tie between No Such Thing As Too Much Challenge and Quezo Fresco. Make more mean stuff guys, I'll eat it up.

Extremely fun challenging encounters. Thank you all making super impressive moments. My entry is fairly tame in comparison to some stuff my eyes have witnessed here.

These maps are really worthy to replay sometime on nightmare to see if I can handle it. That being said these maps are not for everyone, difficulty is really cranked up here.

Well, this is certainly not doing anything remotely positive to my already way too high blood pressure.
I absolutely, mindlessly, hate 'rush-hour' and 'beam-in right-in-your-face' maps. It is, IMHO, the pit of lousy mapping.
And that happens here - in the midst of elaborate architechture, well-hidden secrets, perfect utilization of the limited textures. well-thought-out taps and riddles - really well thought-out and wonderful maps.
I don't do rage-quitting; i use cheats. In this case, it ain't enough. I think i'll start my motorbike and terrorize some innocent citizens, just to re-establish some peace of mind...

I obviously couldn't get far in any of the maps (on the majority of them, I couldn't get past the first challenge...) but a bit of noclip and godmode to look at later bits on those, and actually getting a short distance into sze's (far enough for shambler in the sky) proves there's a lot of structure to this, it's not just really really hard.

(As someone who still can't reliably grenade jump, despite some coaching...)

Played on Easy, but actually there's no difference between skills 0-2, as confirmed by the mappers.

It's impossible to play it! I finished the sand map with great difficulty, died many times, and then some bullshit started! I was waiting for an interesting episode, but I got some trash! Even in god mode, it is impossible to walk around the map normally. And very often you have to turn on the "noclip" mode.
Wasted time.

I'm giving you 3 stars just because of the first episode and the sand map.

Incredibly satisfying to complete these even if at times it feels hopeless. A lot of "tap head rub belly" gameplay, daunting at first but at one point you "get it"... or luck into it. Hard to pick a favourite, though thematically probably sze's shifty sandy vibe, it feels like it could be fun to repeatedly go for better times in. I liked the zaniness in riktoi's it reminded me of doing hard sequence breaks in metroid/souls games, running past enemies and doing silly jumps. Cube hunt is fun but alas couldn't find them all.. stick's slime swimming is great, general progression was fun too. Mazu's map was very Mazu, bomastic throughout with a great layout, I actually really liked the aesthetic provided by the prototype textures here. Other than the one slaughter (which was still fun), I really liked spoot's resource management which also appeared in h4's map. Did it lead to depressing loads/map restarts? Absolutely, but it was fun to conquer. Fun vertical movement too in spoot's and h4's. A fun 2 days with this, uncertain how many hours, definitely over 12 over 2 days. The Gilbert lives!
